Customers find this shaving soap effective, noting it works well with double edge blades and provides a smooth, close shave with soft, moisturized skin. The soap is unscented and lathers quickly, with one customer mentioning it forms a thick lather with minimal water. They appreciate its longevity, noting it holds up well to lathering, and consider it good value, with one comparing its performance to more expensive creams.

Gentle, makes a good lather. My current favorite
I’ve tried a few shaving soaps, but this soap is my favorite (Cella runs a close second). It’s a clear (nearly) glycerin based soap and it creates a good, foamy lather.I use it with a horsehair brush (I like horsehair better than Badger or Boar) and found that I can get a good, solid lather by rubbing the slightly wet brush over the soap and rubbing the brush on my face to make a good lather. I can also build a lather in a bowl, but why bother?I get a close shave. So far, I haven’t had any face irritation from the soap. It’s also unscented, which I like. For this price, you should be able to afford three – and they should last quite a while.

Excellent Shave Soap
I’m a die hard fan of Williams Shave Soap, and I’m disappointed they’re no longer producing it. However, I’m also annoyed by the fact that so many vendors are exploiting this fact by taking advantage and selling, even just one cake for exorbitant prices. That being said, this glycerin based Van Der Hagen shave soap is an excellent alternative. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that it is in some respects, better than Williams. It builds a nice, rich lather and creates its own smooth moisture barrier when brushed on the face. This makes for a shave that’s smooth as silk. Typically, I use a thin layer of hand soap or shampoo (not lathered up) to accomplish this before applying my shave soap. However, with this product, it’s not necessary. The only issue I encountered, due to its glycerin base, it smells like, well…glycerin, instead of typical shave soap. However, after the first 2-3 shaves, you’ll become accustomed to it. It’s not an off-putting smell. As a matter of fact, it smells very clean. It’s just different. If this concerns you, I’d recommend purchasing the scented variety.I purchased the unscented 3 pack, back in January of this year. It’s now August, and I’m about 2 weeks into my last cake with daily shaving except on weekends. So, pretty good on the longevity. All in all, you can’t lose with this product for the price.

Works well.
Lathers nicely and makes a shave good and clean. We have very hard water and the lather doesn’t melt away.

good for the money
I used a different shaving soap for a long time, but recently gave this a try when the other brand got really expensive. This doesn’t have any scent. I generally find scented products go overboard and turn me off. I do like a subtle scent, but this one is fine having no scent. I gave it 5 stars for value and it’s a great soap, but it maybe could have some more oils or something. It works great, and I’m happy with it for the price, but maybe could be a bit smoother. In general, I don’t get why shaving soap is so expensive. It doesn’t seem to be a fundamentally different product than regular soap. Anyhow, I have an extra large mug for my shaving soap and melt this in the microwave so it sits flat in the bottom.

It works, but…
This is a review of the fragrance free hypo-allergenic version. I am a longtime Williams user. My Williams ran out, so I tried this. The lather is usable, but more watery than I prefer. It leaves a greasy feeling residue on the face after shaving, which I do not prefer. It has no noticeable scent. It would be great if someone revives Williams.Update: After using this for 2 weeks, I am moving on to trying something that works better for me.

Good product, provides good beard luvrication
This is the first soap I used when starting with the double Edge razors. It provides nice cushion and lubrication for shaving. I have tried others and they were fine but have always come back to this brand.

No scent or colouring, which I prefer. Doesn’t dry the skin too. Good shaving product.
