SOS (Send Instructions): My Beach Waves Are Waiting
This Tieumioe Automatic Hair Curler promises effortless curls, but honestly, it’s been a bit of a learning curve (and a heat-damaging one at that!). Where are the instructions?! Some reviewers mentioned getting a helpful insert, but mine was MIA.- Prepare for trial and error, folks. I ended up with some beachy waves, but it took a few tries (and some frizz!).- The temperature settings are a mystery. Green, purple, red… what do they even mean?!- At least the curl direction selection is easy to figure out.- The swivel cord is a lifesaver, and it’s nice and long, so you don’t feel tethered to the outlet.- It’s well-designed to prevent burns, which is a plus for clumsy folks like me.- And it’s lightweight, so your arms won’t get tired from all that curling action. If you’re patient and willing to experiment, this curler might be worth a shot. But seriously, Tieumioe, include some instructions!

Poor product design makes this curling iron a miss
This was a complete miss for me. I have very fine, straight hair- so perfect candidate for this type of product. 1.) The slit that holds the hair is approximately 1 inch. The entire barrel does not open– it’s just the one inch at the top. So, first- you have to put in the smallest piece of hair to even be able to use this. Second, some of the hair ends up against the barrel as intended- the rest ends up on the outside, wrapped around the plastic area– meaning more frizz and tangles than curls. 2.) There is no indicator what the temperatures are. What is green vs purple vs red? What temperature settings are these? 3.) The few “curls” are very weak and soft. WAY too much effort to get them vs the result. I gave up trying to do my whole head. Just took too long. Additionally, there were no included instructions. I figured it out, but had to come back to Amazon to watch the video.

Frustrating controls and underwhelming results.
I was super excited to get this Tieumioe Automatic Hair Curling Iron and couldn’t wait to try it out, but after two half-hour sessions, I only managed to get two decent curls. My results ranged from those two good curls to a couple of frizzed-out crazy curls, many limp and only “sorta curled” curls, and one totally tangled mess of a curl so bad I thought I might have to wear this iron as a barrette. What looked so simple in the little video turned out to be (at least for me) a feat bordering on the impossible and I gave up.My first impression of the iron was good. I got the pretty purple one, and it looked nice although it did appear that the product had been returned as everything was flopping around in the box. The controls are simple which is good because the little instruction booklet is vague and not helpful at all. The cord is long and it swivels, but the prongs are weird – both are solid and the same width, so not your normal electric plugs. The light comes on as soon as it’s plugged in but you do have to press the on button to get the green “on” light. I went with the lowest temp (at least I think I was) and things just went downhill. I tried putting my hair into the slot in every possible way but nothing worked. My hair would slip out or get caught or just lay there and floop around. It was frustrating and the controls, although minimal, were hard to find. I’ve used many curling irons and I’m usually successful, but this one was a failure for me.I honestly like hair tools and I’m always looking for the next best thing in curling irons. This is not it, at least not for me. I gave it 3 stars because I did get some curls so I know it’s possible. I also like that it seems to be impossible to burn yourself with this and the price is great. Finally, it’s pretty and purple and who doesn’t like that? Ultimately I do feel that somebody else might figure it out, so I’ll leave it to them.

Awesome curling iron if you pay attention to instructions
HOLY COW!! I FINALLY CURLED MY HAIR AT HOME!!For context, I’d looong given up on curling irons and the general idea of styling my hair at home. I have thick, long, dark brown Asian hair that’s ironically so healthy, it refused to be curled. Whenever I tried a curling iron, it took FOREVER and half the curled sections straightened out immediately. And of course, I burned my fingers. I’d just resigned myself to a life of unglamorousness. Until Amazon offered this for me to review. A curling iron that ROLLS for you? And has adjustable temps? And a swiveling cord? And protects you from the heated barrel? OK, you had my curiosity but now you have my attention. My first attempt ended up like many of the other reviewers’. Lots of tangled hair, lots of hair wound up (in multiple senses) OUTSIDE the heated cage that they’re supposed to be inside of, lots of sections that came off the barrel still uncurled. Sometimes it even tried to rip the hair from my scalp 🤕 I was ready to blast it in my review. Then I took a break, regrouped, watched some YouTube tutorial videos of the CHI Spin N Curl (which I think this is a budget clone of), and most importantly, REREAD the instructions that came with it.You see, while the instructions are admittedly broken English, the poor person writing it actually knows what they’re talking about and WANTS to be helpful. That’s way more than I can say for a lot of Amazon Chinesium that comes through my doors, including power tools that can sever my limbs (and another reason I don’t curl my hair, because I have to wear it up all day in my shop anyway, lest my table saw rips it off). The instruction that made ALL the difference for me is this one illustration that says you need to put the hair section “BETWEEN the positioning teeth of the hairpin slot and the curler” – meaning the deep channel along one side of the heated barrel. The hair section needs to be loosely contained in it and hanging down naturally, loosely parallel with the barrel. You should not be holding up the other end. Insert the hair section between the two “petals” on top of the slot, slightly above where you want the curls to start. The “petals” stay cool and safe to touch, which is great for steadying your placement, and for feeling your way around and inserting the hair section, especially in the back when you can’t see it.I had tried doing it every other way – slot facing out, slot facing in, roll left, roll right, iron tilted, iron sideways, even iron upside down. They all resulted in tangles and hair trapped outside the barrel. When I switched to this, there was a HUGE improvement immediately. Almost the entire section was magically and neatly pulled into the cage where it needed to be. I think there are still refinements I can make to my technique to make sure ALL of it makes it in, but even with that learning curve, and the general contortionist nature of DIY hair perms, I’m thrilled.Another tip: pulse the roll buttons so it rolls in short bursts so you can observe what it’s doing and adjust.Once I got that one detail, ahem, straightened out (har har), I was shocked how much better it is, compared to all the other lame curling irons I’ve ever used. The swivel cord is awesome and no hair tool should ever not have it. I LOVE the adjustable temp. I know my hair is sturdy and stubborn, so I proceeded directly to the max temp, which curled my hair SO FAST. One big problem I had before was pulling the iron off my hair too soon, before it was fully dry, making that entire section a waste of time. I realize now that that was because I had a weak-ass iron. This one blasts enough heat to actually set the curl. I’d wished it had a timer (the CHI Spin N Curl has a 15-second one), or even better, a moisture meter so it knows the hair is dry, the hydrogen bonds have been restored, the curl has set, you can remove the thing now. But now I realize I don’t need a timer. Once I know it works so fast, I just count to ten and release. Those with more agreeable hair probably need even less time. Also, another review said it can only do tiny sections at a time. I thought so too, but not so! With proper technique, it can handle relatively huge sections, certainly way bigger than what my previous irons could do. I was able to do about 1″ wide sections at a time, which covered the barrel completely. This was HUGE, because I definitely could not justify the time it takes to curl 200 tiny hair sections. I’ve got things to do with my life. I’m not an ornament. If that’s the price of beauty, I’d rather be ugly. But with this, I just effortlessly curled my entire thick, long (mid-back) head of hair and hardly even noticed the time. I would have been happy if it was easy enough to do once a year for the office holiday party, but this was so easy, I might even curl my hair twice a year! Maybe even for casual dinners with people I don’t especially like!Another thing: I thought curling irons needed damp hair to work (moisture breaks the hydrogen bonds; heat restores them). But I just curled my hair dry, and it worked??!! That was another huge time saver. It means I’m not restricted to using it right after washing my hair, I don’t have to blow dry (another chore I hate with the intensity of 1000 suns), and I don’t have to tote around a spray bottle or waste time misting my hair and making sure my hands are dry before touching the curls.I also love that it tells me when it’s preheating (flashing) and when it’s hot enough (steady light).I kinda wish it came with more than 2 alligator clips, because the 2 included weren’t enough to contain the pile of curls I was rapidly accumulating. But it was very nice that it came with any at all, since I forgot to grab mine before settling in, and I suppose I have more hair than most people 🤷♀️ I tried first to clip up the UNcurled hair, but found it much easier to just start with the full head of hair and clip up the curled sections as they come in. The included styling comb was helpful too. Also, re: other review who complained about not knowing what the lights and temperatures were, you might want to check out the table in the instruction sheet that lays out that exact information? Green = 170ºC, blue = 190ºC, red = 210ºC, cool?Overall, this seems to do everything the $90 brand name irons do for 1/3 the price, and the proof is in the pudding – my hair is CURLED, ladies and gentlemen. Solid 5 stars.
