Much better than my designer dye applicator (toothbrush!)
With that said, I jealously guarded that toothbrush come dye applicator for years, and it has worked great. (It is surprising that the bristles never fell out after all the usage). This Ellie Hair Dye Brush is definitely different from my long-trusted, soft-bristled toothbrush…I’ve dyed my own roots/hair for decades because I get the results I want. Now that my hair is thinner, the toothbrush tends to pull my hair in a way I don’t like. Shocker…I gave this brush a try, and it is definitely different in the way it applies the dye to the hair. I adapted quickly, and using the thin end, it was a breeze to make neat, even part lines. The bristles are smooth and soft, but if you use the brush perpendicular to the part (180 degrees), it will give you a stiffer surface. I found it applies the dye without breaking right or left as I dab it down the part. Then, I was able to easily “paint” and evenly distribute the right amount of product on each side of the part.The dye rinsed quickly and easily out of the bristles, and it dried just as soft and uniformly straight as it came. If you need a stiffer brush, this one may not be for you, but I found it just right for me and would definitely purchase it again.

Not great for at home use
Ordered this to use when dying my hair at home. The tapered end helped me section off my hair when applying the color which was nice, but I’d prefer stiffer bristles. The softness of the brush made me feel like I was just painting my hair and not getting the roots very well which is my biggest focus when dying my hair. Only removed one star for that since the product isn’t actually marketed for how I use it so it’s not really the product’s fault.

Gave even coverage down to my roots
I dye my hair often, like clockwork every two weeks. I have tried all kinds of applicators and different brushes but this particular product is wonderful. I use hair dye for my roots, and it is sometimes hard to get good coverage when only using the tip of the bottle to separate then my fingertips to apply. I liked this product because of the length, the separating tip and the bristles. The length helped me see my hair from a distance and the tip helped me separate my hair with ease and precision. The best part was the bristles, it gave even coverage and applied colorant all the way to the root of my hair without dying my scalp.

The design is unique and super cute. The color is a nice change from the usual black. The bristles are just the right length and stiffness to achieve quality full color applications or a more delicate balayage. The handle works for my small hands but I can see how thin it is being a problem for someone with larger hands. Overall very satisfied.

Great dye brush
This dye hair brush comb is awesome. The bristles are so soft. It’s dark blue. And worth every penny. The width of the brush is big so is covers a good area on the scalp. It’s worth it, buy it because it gives great coverage when dyeing your hair. Great product!

Very attractive hair coloring brush that seems well made and ergonomic
This hair color brush is so cute and incredibly soft! The bristles are stiff enough to use with hair color or bleach, but they are as silky soft as my expensive makeup brushes! The handle is round and should be easy to grip while using it, plus it is so cute with the whole whale tail/nautical theme. I’m looking forward to using this next time I color my hair!

Good quality bristles!
The bristles of the brush feel soft and appear to be good quality, they also don’t seem to shed. There could be more bristles on the brush since this is advertised as a balayage brush. It does feel thinner towards the end of the bristles which would lead me to use it more for root touch ups rather than hair painting. I don’t think I would have enough control of the bristles to do a balayage with it but I like the quality for root touch ups. The handle of the brush is okay but I don’t like the fact that “whale tail” is written on the actual handle.

Better than other brushes I have used in the past
This brush looks exactly as it does in the stock photos. The tapered handle is nice and long. The bristles are both soft and stiff at the same time. I know that sounds contradictory but I don’t know how else to describe how they feel. It’s different than the cheap brush I have where all the bristles are exactly the same. The blue color is rather cool, I must admit. I am not a trained hairdresser, just a gal who likes to color her hair at home herself. I feel like I have a professional tool in this brush.
